Choosing Between Anti-Embolism & Compression Stockings

Anti-Embolism stockings
  • often called TEDs
  • white ones you get in the hospital after surgery
  • specifically for non-ambulatory patient confined to a bed or wheel chair
  • not aesthetically appealing
  • difficult to put on
  • usually a low-cost, temporary solution
  • minimal length elasticity (3 months) which can lead to bunching or binding that can constrict blood flow
Compression Stockings
  • designed for people who are mobile
  • graduated compression starts at the ankle and decreases as it goes up the leg. Compression is lower at the top of the garment.
  • enhances circulation while helping to minimize and control leg/ankle swelling
  • easy to care for
  • available in different colors and materials
Burn Garments
  • custom garments made from a special material beneficial to burn scars.
  • our brand is Jobskin by Torbot
  • Call for a custom garment appointment

The Compression of the stockings all depends on the effects of gravity on the circulatory system in an upright, ambulatory patient.
